When I started writing a zillion years ago, I was all YA all the time. YA was the genre that made me feel the feels, and I adored them all. I even beat the odds and got my debut novel published in 2014. I worked by author butt off promoting that book and building a community of fellow YA authors that were exceptional in their generosity and support.
Then the industry began to shift. The feels started to flounder for a lot of us in the community. This was heartbreaking. I felt feels I didn't want to feel (and still do!). So, I drowned my sorrows and frustrations in reading and writing female-driven adult suspense and horror. I joined ITW and Sisters in Crime, expanding my community...but I missed YA.And when I started an MFA program, I felt the need to write back to my roots. All this is to say, my manuscript inventory has grown. And I'm so very excited to share these stories and characters with readers.
Change is difficult. Especially, when it's change you don't expect or initiate. I had no agency over the YA genre shifting gears on me (and everyone else), but some pretty thrilling, swoony, empowering, magical stories have come out of the changes I've faced. See for yourself below.
